The Title of Liberty
Sorry I never no what to name these emails so instead of crazy awesome week I put title of Liberty! That's also our new zone vision and we are HYPED!!!!
I never thought I would enjoy quarantine missionary work as much as I did this week. We didn't have to waste any time traveling and got to spend a ton of time doing the work holy smokes this was such an amazing week I'll just start from the beginning I guess haha.
Monday- An old friend I found on Facebook back in Blue Springs reached out to me who flat out told me she wasn't interested in joining the "Mormon Church!" She had been humbled, so I guess things hadn't been going to well for her after that and she remembered me and felt like she needed to reach out to me! We ended up having a great lesson with her and invited her to be baptized and she said yes! After that she said "if you would have told me at any time in my life I'd be joining your church I'd think you're crazy!"
Tuesday- we did a great workout I think I did like 200 pushups and 250 burpees ☠☠☠ no bueno haha but I felt good after. Sadly that day our roommates the other zone leaders had to move out so they are gone now
Wednesday- ABSOLUTELY CRAZY so we are teaching this guy Jeff who lives down stairs and told us he wants to learn more but doesn't have enough time because work is crazy and everything. That was about a week ago So at 7 am we go play pickleball with the other Elders and when we get back Jeff is outside crying. He said he got fired from his job and hes super worried about finding another. Then he was willing to talk again and he had a few good questions so we told him to read the Book of Mormon to find the answer and he said that's what everyone has said (past missionaries) but then we asked him if he'd ever done it. He said no, then we told him we would follow up in just a couple of hours. He ended up reading and he was amazed he had gained a ton of interest and now wants to learn even more and we've been talking/teaching him every day since!
Thursday- we got together as an entire zone, for Thanksgiving we tried to deep fry a Turkey which almost worked. I told the other Elders we should take the netting off of the Turkey that's around it, they said no so we sent it on in. After about 15 min we pulled it out and it looked real good! But then we opened it up and it was raw inside. If only we had taken of the netting haha. It was pretty fun though we got to watch a church movie as a zone and so we watched a fighting preacher it's a pretty good one if you haven't seen it!
Friday- we got to teach some awesome people 1. Ana is someone Elder Gilbert previously taught in one of his areas she was super cool! And 2. This girl I was talking to on Facebook and I out to her and asked if I could pray for her right before her dad died, he ended up dying and she had some hard feelings against God, but she ended up softening her heart and realized she needed to get closer to God and so she told me she wanted to learn more and get closer to God. Turns out she went to the Kansas City Temple open house and loved it and also her cousins are members of the church! It was pretty cool! She ended up coming to church Sunday too! (Virtually)
Saturday- I was reminded of someone I had reached out to in the past who's name is Lupe! Shes a scientist and she said she wanted to pray with me so I sent her a message and asked her if she wanted to pray, she said of course so we prayed and then we talked about the book of Mormon and it turns out she had been to the temple open house as well and shes also lived in Utah. She has had great experience with members of the church and is pretty interested! Also like 4 non- members who we had lost contact with commented on my give thanks posts and we were able to get back in contact with them!
Sunday- we had a super spiritual lesson with Janelle, so we invited a super solid member who's son died just last month when he was 18. She was super strong through it all, and she had a super strong testimony of the plan of salvation, so we brought her in the lesson to share with Janelle because her dad was kind of on his death bed. She and Janelle hit it off and she taught her for like 30 solid minutes and the spirit was so strong it was insane! Right after the lesson we went to teach a member family that used to live in Merida! Pretty cool, they brought a non member friend to the lesson and it went pretty well!
Missionary work is just the best the work just keeps going and all of these people that we are teaching are just people we have found this week! We are teaching others too! We are working super hard and seeing lots of miracles come from it it's amazing! Sorry this is super long but I wanted to actually sit down and write a good email for once haha! I'm so grateful for all the many miracles we have been able to see and be apart of! Something I really liked that they talked about in church yesterday is making sure we are spiritually prepared! We cant look at this Covid season like it's a time to vacation from church because it's a time to prepare us to be better! I was reminded of the parable of the 10 virgins, 5 took the time to prepare while the others slacked off. I would invite you all to evaluate what have you done to strengthen your testimony during these times and if you haven't I would invite you to do it. You dont want to end up like the 5 virgins without enough oil (testimony) I love you all, I hope you have a great week!
